Student Satisfaction Survey Results

In August 2009 we conducted a survey of our students. We asked for feedback on:

  • Overall satisfaction
  • Course materials
  • Student support
  • The enrolment process
  • Assignments
  • Assignment marking & feedback

We had a huge amount of positive feedback that brought a tear to the eye, but first let's address what we learnt from our students feedback:

What Our Students Have Told Us To Work On

We had comments about spelling mistakes, poor grammer, punctuation, and formatting of our course materials.

We are embarrassed about that and we will re-double our efforts to correct the errors.

However, it won't change over night, it will take time.

To current students and prospective students we ask you to bear with us and look beyond the errors and focus on the knowledge you can gain by studying the pages.

230 Examples of the Positive Feedback We Received

Here are 3 of the questions we asked, and 230 responses:

  29. I have grown in confidence and have picked up things in conversation that I now understand. Yesterday I was approached by a high up boss asking if I am taking management papers and am I interested in changing my role. 41. Now I gain more knowledge about proper communication and this program is helping me to become self confident and courageous to face new challenges and improve my work as I go through different experiences each day.

  44. not sure i have only just started this programme
  45. A little to early to tell. I have only just started the 2nd module.
  46. Don't have time, too busy studying. Haha!
  47. As a student who has not participated in formal learning for some years now, I have improved in my ability to quickly research and sift through loads of relevant information. As a result of the interview assignments, I learned a lot about the company I work for. I share what I am learning with work colleagues and with our company management. Surprisingly management have embraced some of the ideas presented and looked at some areas of weakness (stuff we don't do and should)and opportunities for growth within our company. Since participating in the Management Programme, I have become more confident about my contribution to the company. Now, I would not hesitate to apply for a management role.
  48. Has increased my knowledge and made me implement systems in our own business.
  49. It is great to be able to apply what I learn at home to work the next day and throughout my employment with tasks & people etc. i can always relate is in some way with my work :) Doing this course gave me the confidence to apply for a different job mid way through my course, so it has had a positive affect from the beginning.
  50. I have found it extremely great in learning new skills about management and i feel that when the time comes that i do want to apply for a management position i will be very confident in dealing with a variety of matters.

  61. the programme has taught me to look at different ways to tackle problems and issues at work, which has been really helpful for me, as I have been promoted since starting this course
  62. Hard to say at this stage as I have only just started. I has definitely helped my knowledge and thoughts on the whole management process.
  63. Helped me to discover myself and my own way of thinking and acting. It has helped me to identify shortfalls in the company I work and where improvements could be made.
  64. I shared my learning's from the first paper 'intro to Management' with my C.E.O. and Operations Manager. This has helped for 'common ground' and they have, in return, shared more of their own learning's. I have got now a very interesting position at my work-place with lots of new challenges and responsibilities - not to mention much better pay!
  65. The programme has given me reason to read, use and evaluate other material relevant to my job. I use the assignments as an outlet of what I learn from that material. That makes studying more meaningful.
  66. It has definitely boosted my confidence and hopefully it will bode me well for a more challenging position within the department once it has been expanded.
  67. I am finding the course a good way to be re-introduced to study. I don't find the course hard but it is making me get myself motivated to sit down and actually complete the work. I feel that once I have completed the course I will have more options, work wise.
  68. This course has increased my personal knowledge and expanded my computer skills. It has allowed me to make changes that will benefit our business. In my profession I have recently applied for a merit step which I have now received. I am hoping that it may led to a new position when our restructuring occurs in the next couple of years.
  69. I have learnt that learning at whatever age is not important. It is about the willingness to learn and to understand the subject. As with everything else it is a journey that you embark on and at some stage come home to with better experience, enjoyment, and wider knowledge that is out there for you to attain if you so wish. I personally did and i enjoyed this journey that seemed to have worked out with my actual working life.
  70. Given incentive to get more out of my job
  71. The business management programme has provided me with both knowledge and confidence, and I have applied these skills in my employment. I have learnt new ways to communicate in my workplace and have achieved better results.
  72. With the great marks I have been getting, it has given me confidence in all areas of my life. A CAN DO attitude. I have just started a hairdressing course at Polytech.
  73. One never stops learning. It is good to keep up with the latest jargon, basically the subject matter forces one to look deeply into all aspects of what it takes to become a good manager and also have confidence in all the many stages required for ensuring the business is being conducted in a professional and correct manner.
  74. Have read on management before. Had plenty of life experience. This course has helped to put some things into better perspective
  75. It has helped me by giving me more confidence when talking to people about certain subjects eg HR, and more knowledge to use. I have moved into a supervisory role since undertaking the course and it has helped me with performance management.
  76. The reason I decided to study was because I don't have any formal qualifications and in the current job market I felt it was important to show employers that I had this knowledge. This has helped me feel confident to apply for management type roles
  77. Communication skills improve
  78. I have a 7 month old son and I thought I was going to struggle really bad with the workload, but it has been really good, it has built up my confidence that I can still work around him. Also I'm learning a lot of great information, and developing skills that will Definitely help me in the future
  79. I decided to do this as i wanted to improve my skills, as I wasn't doing anything with my life at the moment, i felt like i had to study a subject.
  80. Just good to refresh on things you may have learned some time ago, and some how managed to forget and move away from over time. Excellent content to complete learning and development gaps.
  81. I have found aspects of this course so far very interesting and relative to my workplace. This has given me more understanding of the management process and what role a manager plays in the workplace. The knowledge gained will provide me with success for future goals.
  82. I have had more than 25 years of administration experience through various industries overseas and abroad. When I came across this programme, I thought I give it a go since I have the time to spare in the evenings. The thing that I really like about this programme is that there is plenty of time given to complete each paper and I do not feel pressured at all. I did have my moments of doubt after I enrolled in the programme but I persevere as I wanted to know whether I could really go through the whole programme. Mighty happy as I have proven to myself that I can still study even though I am past 50 years of age.
  83. Its early days but I am already feeling more confident, especially at work. I have learnt a lot and when studying it makes you think about all sorts of situations and how you might handle things differently in the future.
  84. As I have just started this course it will boost my confidence in my ability to apply for a management position within my company and to be successful in that application once I have completed the course. Once this has been achieved it will be the first time a female manager has been in this company as it is a male dominated company.
  85. Applied for management roles, i have increased confidence i can do it!
  86. Applied for new occupation.
  87. Management programme has confirmed a lot that I did know in the past and has given me a lot more confidence in returning to the workforce, I was at my last job for 4years before i became a stay at home mum on a dairy farm (big change from the city) it gives me something to be proud of as I progress through. Since joining the management programme I have taken a more active role in offering advice to my partner who is currently managing a dairy farm, a lot can be applied he is also learning from advice i give. Thanks
  88. Increased my confidence and inspired me towards further study. I will be applying for a job on completion of this course however will continue to study on a part time basis as I have enjoyed this course greatly.
  89. Only recently started the course. Have learnt a lot already and have found it challenging - I find I need to spend more than the required time I was advised I would need. Mostly personal achievement although there is the possibility of a Managers position in the pipeline.
  90. It has boosted my knowledge but above all it has given me a tremendous boost to my confidence. Being a 40-something year old, it is nice to achieve another step in the right direction, even if a little later than intended and it is really good to know that its never too late to learn (and still have enough brain-cells to do it!)
  91. The program has helped broaden my knowledge of the many facets of management so in that regard it is a success. I am yet to see a tangible benefit in undertaking the course. As an experienced manager I would not suggest that it has increased confidence or the like but it has confirmed that management is where I want to drive my career.
  92. It has given me the confidence that i am capable of management.
  93. I was already in a position of assistant manager, but have become more confident with knowledge and understanding of certain areas in the business. this has helped me a lot and my manager has let me take on certain projects related to the studies. e.g. organizing some events over our quieter season rather than close for 4 weeks!! has been awesome
  94. The management course has help boast my confidence and knowledge. Giving me the chance to learn new things by being able to have the resources and support without having to take time out and go to classes.
  95. Knowledge
  96. My confidence has increased and my understanding of some topics has increased greatly. I would like to think that my knowledge has increased. I am nervous about the thought of applying for a Management Role as I am still unsure what kinds of roles I could expect to be successful in. Perhaps further details of this could be made available at the end of the course.
  97. I'm too busy with my life, my new home, my new job, and study to be looking to bring something else into my life at the moment! Once achieving a successful NZIM Cert, THEN I'll be able to look forward to getting back into the Management work place.
  98. I've been able to use the knowledge I have thus far gained to go into a job interview with confidence and new-found skills. I even asked for a much higher salary that I expected to receive and cited reasons that I was worth that level of pay. To my surprise, the job was offered and the starting pay was only $1k per annum lower than I had told them I expected.
  99. Definitely my confidence has risen with work and home. I am now interested in a larger diversity of topics which I would not normally take time with because I am learning about it, understanding it instead of just hearing about it. I have the confidence to apply for management roles and excited to put my new found skills to the test.
  100. It has helped to gain qualifications in skill areas that are used in my everyday job, and provides the qualifications to apply for other jobs that require these skills.
  101. This course has given me a lot more confidence and my manager is now training me in some of his work, which I feel is a bonus
  102. I have continued with my study for now so that in the hope that i gain my certificate i ca add it to my CV when I apply for any jobs
  103. The paper on problem solving was a big help as well as the one on Communication, it was really interesting looking at all the different ways of communicating and then afterwards recognizing these ways in other people around the place.
  104. The confidence in understanding business from a basic level has opened up a wide range of opportunities for myself. People are interested in how I am succeeding in the course, they are gaining more confidence in me every day and that's just based on my results alone. So far I've had offers to manage three different businesses as well as gain many different business ideas of my own. Finishing this course will enable me to make a more informed decision to where I would like to start business as a manager. It's a great course.
  105. Since starting the programme I have started my own business and am currently in the process of marketing. I have found that the information in the course is very relevant to my new business and it also helps me to improve my husbands current business. I think that If I had not applied for the course I would not have started my own business and would probably be working in a dead end job and very unhappy!
  106. Increased confidence and better time management.
  107. Adventure education Business Management course has definitely helped me feel more confident in my current job. Although I am not currently in a Managers position, I feel higher skilled to be able to apply for a supervisory or managers role when a position arises. To be able to complete this course by correspondence while still working full time has allowed me to up skill without becoming a full-time student and missing out on earning money at the same time.
  108. Having the confidence has been a big lack in my future career goals and just being able to have the knowledge to add to a new job and a future job is great it really helps with my confidence levels and I have looked at working my way up to one day being able to step up to management role in my workplace and using the skills I have learnt from this course in to the day to day of my job. I now speak with confidence, I am able to take some of what I have learnt to my meetings, to my one on one time at work and just sharing what I have study.
  109. Added confidence when performing my duties as admin/bookkeeper for family construction company + more confidence and know how in dealing with clients and their requests.
  110. It has allowed me to complete professional reports to a good standard. It has also helped me to pay attention to all documents at work and understand what is required better
  111. The programme helped me gain additional knowledge that I can apply in the work place within my management role.
  112. As I have only joined with AEN I really don't have any further comments to make as yet.
  113. Formal Knowledge of the role that I was employed in.
  114. I have become a business partner and also have a lot more confidence
  115. I gained a lot of knowledge that I put into practice at work. The material is very helpful and raises your level of self confidence.
  116. Has helped with organisational skills and time management
  117. I have learned more about different aspects of Management, including some theory and history which were helpful and important
  118. Feeling more confident to perhaps attempt other courses realising that I may not be as stupid as I thought I was
  119. The communication paper has been great! It gave me more confidence in an area i needed a lot of improvement in. I applied for this course shortly after accepting a management role, so it has been great to put a lot of the course content into practice. It has also been difficult learning a new job and then come home and do some study as well as having two young children. But i guess that's what a manager is all about. Juggling everything all at once.....
  120. Communication has improved - applied for jobs with confidence.
  121. It was like a bridging course in that I haven't studied in many years so this gave me a chance to find my feet.
  122. I have questioned the lack of planning within the company and I am more confident questioning the way things are done 'just because that's the way they have always been done'. I have applied for two management roles and hope to have the second job offer by the end of the week :). To be selected as one of the top 10% of applicants for the role is a great confidence boost. Prospective employers have a very positive attitude towards applicants that are actively participating in lifelong learning.
  123. Joining the programme has helped me begin to feel confident about returning to paid employment sooner rather than later and not continuing to rely on my self-employment.
  124. It's very empowering to educate yourself on topics you would otherwise know nothing about. What you learn can be applied not only at work but in your personal life as well. Doing the course has really boosted my own self confidence and as I am part way through it's given me a goal to achieve over this year. Its a real positive that I will be able to apply for more senior positions in the future.
  125. It has helped me to focus; I feel it has enhanced my way of thinking.
  126. Def has helped my confidence and once course is completed I will have no worries as to applying for business positions which I otherwise would not have dreamed to.
  127. It has helped me to be able to organise my staff better. So far I have more confidence in my abilities on how to manage my staff and other issues in the workplace. I am also starting my own business and it is helping me to understand how to go about things and what areas I need to learn more of.
  128. That I can get back into study again and achieve well. I may look at doing even further study.
  129. Updated/Enriched my knowledge on management, under NZ setting, resulting to confidence in doing my work and in relating to others within the workplace.
  130. No I still don't have the confidence to apply for a management role. However, doing the course has proven to my employer that I am keen to learn still and that I have received amazing results. For my own self, it has been a huge learning curve - having not studied really since I left high school when I was 17 - am now 53. I have recommended the course to others.
  131. Perhaps look at systems and methods used and suggest changes and improvements in a analytical manner at companies I work at on a contract basis.
  132. I am looking forward to completing this management course, only to gain more qualification. I feel euphoric at the prospect of thinking I could actually consider applying for that management role. However I still don't believe it. Yes its true the course is doing wonders for my self esteem, confidence value and knowledge.
  133. Makes me think a lot more about the management process
  134. Yes, I have applied for a manager's position. Although I have held managerial positions before they always had other titles HOD, Chief Medical Laboratory Technologist, Principal Technologist, etc., but never Laboratory Manager. The programme has provided me with a lot more information that I have been able to apply.
  135. It has encouraged me to think outside the square and understand there are many ways to reach the same finishing point. I got a management job and find myself looking back at the notes to better understand the workers on the factory floor, the salespeople, office staff and other management. The hardest part was accepting that I can't do everything and realising that they are being paid to do a job that they are good at and giving them enough scope to do so. As long as we end up achieving what is required of us after all that is how we will be judged.
  136. Studying of management certainly gives me confidence to increase my performance. Since starting this program I am at the same time training as a supervisor in my company. Because of this program the head of my department has already at times entrusted me with management of department in his absence
  137. Nothing its recession time just happy to have a job!!!!!!!!!
  138. I have gained a lot more confidence in the choices i make. i feal i now have gained a new patience allowing me to access situations in more dept.
  139. The programme is giving me the qualifications edge when i decide to apply for management positions
  140. Has given me personal confidence in myself, makes me feel successful and like I can contribute to society better.
  141. As I am already in a job that i have worked for, the management course has helped my time management skill as well as achieving higher results in my job.
  142. So far I have done well with the assignments, and this has given a huge boost to my confidence. I wasn't sure I could do it as I struggled at school. Who knows where this course will take me, I am happy at my job for the time being, but it is great to be gaining the knowledge and confidence to move either within the same organisation or to a new one in the future.
  143. My study time management was shocking; with the odd shake-up from Support it had no choice but improve. High school for me was 30+ years ago so getting back into study mode was really hard for me; this programme has given me the confidence to do more studies. Doing the programme has helped me re-set my goals. I have another 15 years or so of work life left, by the end of the year I will make my career change. The skills from the programme and the fact that I can prove I'm doing studies will ensure my goals are achieved.
