I knew that I needed to formalise my eduction and the programme that Adventure Education offered appeared to be just the ticket.

After the first couple of papers, I started to get a little apprehensive about time management, commitment and all those other feelings of what I have got myself in to. I decided it was time to formalise my many years of "work experience" and jumped at the chance when I saw the Business and Management Course on offer.

I had not been a student for 30 years, so was feeling very nervous and unsure of my ability, and how I would manage to fit it all in.

Once my first paper was completed (and I had passed) I found a routine of setting aside study every night - I actually looked forward to getting into the books and learning.

I took on this course as a means of obtaining a recognised qualification as well as a way of getting back into some form of formal study. The work can be done as time permits but with timeframes in place it still calls for commitment and time management.

Every now and then I felt I am to old to be bothering with this, its for the youngsters, and then I would spend time with my books and just be so stimulated and off I would go again.

Akin too many I have gradually progressed into managing things, be they budgets, people or assets through the course of my career. After a while you find yourself with a number of years experience but no formal qualifications, and possibly a few holes in your understanding. I saw the Adventure Education course advertised in our local newspaper and thought that this would be the best way to start filling in the gaps. With the low administration fee I felt I had nothing to lose.

The course offered a grounding in everything that I wanted, management techniques, communication skills, finance and so much more. I took up the challenge of this course for a number of reasons.

I always wanted to study management. This word always fascinated me very much. I tried to study by myself, searched many online journals and study materials but always got confused with so many words and papers. Could not get hang of it and was not sure where to start from. Then I found "Adventure Education" distance learning course. I just joined it but thought it will be again one of those correspondence courses where loads of books will be referred and then one will get confused and finally end up giving up and accept the loss of money.

When offered the opportunity to study, after starting a great senior Administration role with a new company, I jumped at the chance. After stumbling into a management role I found I had years of business experience but no formal qualifications. I would attend meetings full of corporate speak and leave wondering what they were talking about.

I had looked at other courses but was reluctant to commit due to time and cost restraints until I found Adventure Education. The NZIM Cert in Mgt is a recognised course and for a $180.00 fee this was the answer.

Like many others I was nervous about studying after so many years away from school; these fears were unfounded as each paper comes with an easy to follow work book from which you can complete each paper. However, further research on the net is fun and there is a load of information out there.

And the great thing about this course is that you can start using your new skills immediately. In a recent meeting with our CEO, Marketing Manager and Commercial Manager our CEO talked about using a matrix but could not remember its name, neither could the others, they have more university degrees between them than a dog has fleas, and the only person who knew the answer was me, that was worth the $180.00 fee alone, thanks Adventure Education.

My reasons for taking this course were to provide me with a tertiary level qualification I could use as a bridge into full-time study next year.

My daughter had moved away to study so I needed to fill that gap after many years devoted to tutoring her in her homeschooling. Adventure education provided that opportunity without the fees generally associated. I could work at my own pace and discovered that my brain still worked and I could produce quality assignments.

As a more mature student, I did wonder how I would manage this course as I work full time plus, do voluntary work and have a family to care for. I emailed assignments, accessed information through the website, and the manuals arrived by mail. I didn't have to drive anywhere. In winter I was snuggled next to the fire with a cuppa and my books, in summer on a lounger in the shade drinking iced tea - all classrooms should be like this!

It's another feather in my cap - the Certificate in Management along with my teaching quals now allows me to fill in for a business tutor should there be a need. I liked that New Zealand local content was used for exercises and found the information easy to follow.

I have recently completed a National Certificate in Management. I found the course to be interesting and have been able to apply many of the new learning's to my current position. When deciding on a Business Management course I had to think of my family and work commitments so settled on the best option for me which was Adventure Education - NZIM Business Management by distance.

I found the staff very supportive, always contactable for help and when I had a few issues at home and couldn't complete my assignments on time - they were very understanding. The work was manageable and if I got stuck on anything I contacted the staff and help was promptly given.

Best benefit from this course was the fact it still allowed me the time to continue working, spending time with family and the icing on the cake was, once I achieved the Business Management qualification it gave me more clout when I asked for a pay rise. Which I was given. :)

Thank you very much for the informative and well-structured course. This course stretched my knowledge, gave the confidence and helped me in achieving my goals. It was a wonderful opportunity for me to do what I always wanted to, along with my full time job. This course includes everything that is required. Being a distance learning programme one is not required to travel and can set our own time for learning as per our convenience, which is very important and helpful for full time employees. However this does not mean that there will be no or less support. Whenever I had any difficulty or confusion I got full support from the staff and buddies. It worked for me and I hope it should work for everyone!

I really enjoyed the course material. I found that it put a really good spin on the theory to relate it back to real life situations. Here are the two most important things I got out of this course: Number 1: It gave me the ability to change the direction of my career in the future, it opened up other options. Number 2: I got the confidence I needed to apply for (and be selected for) my current job at NZ Odysseys (which I love!).
