Student Satisfaction Survey Results (June 2011)

In June 2011 we conducted a survey of our students. We asked for feedback on:

  • Overall satisfaction
  • Course materials
  • Student support
  • The enrolment process
  • Assignments
  • Assignment marking & feedback

We had a huge amount of positive feedback that brought a tear to the eye, but first let’s address what we learnt from our students feedback:

What our students have suggested we need to work on

We had comments about spelling mistakes, poor grammar, punctuation, and formatting of our course materials.

We are embarrassed about this and have since made a huge effort to fix these and make the workbooks easier to read, and keep your learning exciting.

To current students: if you do find errors in workbooks, we welcome your feedback so we can improve material for future students.

Examples of the Positive Feedback We Received

Here are 3 of the questions we asked, and some of the responses:

Q: “Apart from learning about Management, how else has the programme helped you? What have you done since joining the programme that you would not have considered before?”

Do you have similar goals to those mentioned in the following responses?:

  1. It has helped me to sort out work issues when dealing with large jobs and also given me confidence.  I applied for an EA role with a top company.  I didn’t get an interview but it got me motivated to think that I had something to offer them.
  2. Perspective – shifts to a more holistic view of organisations and not just from my own point of view. Thanks.
  3. I have only just started so I guess its helped me with knowlege.
  4. The course really assisted me in managing conflict and gave me more confidence in handling sticky situations at work and even at home.
  5. I have only been doing the course for just over a month so don’t really have any stories yet.  However it has already given me so much knowledge and taught me things I didn’t really know before that have helped me.
  6. I am interested in learning again.  I find myself wanting to learn more about areas that I have previously shied away from.  I have more knowledge and understanding about communication and my confidence has increase.  I have more confidence in myself when I am dealing with my peers.
  7. Doing the course has certainly helped with self-knowledge.  I have recently arrived in New Zealand and the programme has given me an insight into Kiwi culture and learning objectives.  There seems to be a greater emphasis on analysis than what I was used to in South Africa.
  8. It has helped by knowledge greatly in the foundation of business, however have not yet applied to any management roles.
  9. This has shown me that I do know a bit about management and that I can use assignments to show by boss that I am getting ready to be promoted.
  10. I have found that it is hard to set aside time to do the programme so I am trying to learn time management as well.
  11. I have only just started the course.  I am currently a stay at home mother so I have not put my skills to use as of yet.  But I’m sure I will in the near future.
  12. It has helped me with management skills the definitely required tuning – especially communication.  I have also learned about areas of business that I didn’t think was relevant to mid-management such as contract law and the relevant parts of an agreement, but it does make it easier when dealing with clients and staff.  I am a mechanic doing management tasks, training has been the right thing to do, as it was when I did my apprenticeship.  Learned skills can be used for a long time and I don’t know what the future will bring.
  13. I was promoted to IT Governance Manager, my first management role, in September 2010.  I decided to undertake study to come up to speed with expectations of managment in general and to give myself some tools to succeed.  This programme has improved both my knowledge and confidence and I have been learning a lot and thoroughly enjoying it.  Thank you.
  14. My awareness of situations and the skills that can be used to help out in those situations has increased.  Things like problem solving skills, and ways to use and read body language have been heightened.  I am finding that using the things I learned is very easy after doing each paper.
  15. The topics in the course have assisted me in general organisation tasks.
  16. The programme has assisted me to increase my self-awareness and attitude toward different aspects of my life.  It not only has increased by perception of what I am capable of and tested me to that end, it also has allowed me to increase my feeling of self worth and assisted me to make a valuable contribution to my workplace.  This management course has a flow-on effect allowing me to apply the principles to more than just managing staff, or improving my managerial skills, it has assisted me so farin creating a platform for better decision making in many aspects of my life.
  17. With me doing this course I was promoted to an assistant manager, it has helped me a lot in getting the course done as I’m working along with the manager/owner to run the business which has helped me a lot.  In the future I would like to run my own business and by doing this course it has given me an idea how to do so.
  18. It’s definitely given me confidence – I did not think I could complete a Level 4 programme and achieve these results.  It’s shown me that I do have a good knowledge in the field but has also filled in the ‘gaps’ where I was lacking and I will now be studying further, to aim for a diploma and then degree, which I didn’t think I would be able to do.
  19. Grown confidence within the position I have, but started to look for a higher management position.
  20. I’m hoping it would broaden my knowledge on the management side of the workforce.  Might consider applying for management roles in the future.
  21. It has also helped with day to day things as well.  I am looking at buying my own business next year so this has really helped me.
  22. Yes, this course is very helpful and does build my confidence at work.  What I have learnt so far has helped improve my work ethics with work and personal life.
  23. It has helped my knowledge, thinking about moving from my current job and create a new challenge and use what I have learnt.
  24. Knowledge.
  25. Overall, this course has provided a good understanding of Management and the principles behind the many and varied functions.  Previously I knew a little about each but coutld not tie it all together satisfactorily.
  26. The programme has helped me to gain more knowledge, some things which I was not even aware of.  This learning is a curve and the support team too is very helpful.  I am considering to move later after I have finished the programme and maybe apply for a role in a management position.
  27. I have really enjoyed the programme to date.  I have gained a lot of knowledge, which is preparing me to take on a management or more senior role.
  28. Confidence in my present role and the confidence to know that I am going to be okay in working at a management level in another job
  29. I have gained knowledge from the programme, I haven’t done anything with it yet but am looking at opening my own business in the near future.  This programme has given me the knowledge to run my own business.
  30. The programme has confirmed for me that I do actually have some management knowledge that is relevant and I am using my knowledge in everyday work tasks.
  31. The programme has helped me to seek out deeper levels of information.
  32. The programme gives you the confidence and techniques to approach challenging situation in your professional and home life situations.  It empowers you to put into practice that which you have learnt.  It is a very practical programme which is great as it prepares you and helps you to understand where you are best suited.
  33. Definitely helped with my knowledge of management.  I applied for a 2IC position and I got it partly because I am doing this management course.
  34. Expanded my knowledge which has opened my eyes and given me greater confidence which has led to better experiences at work and has certainly opened some doors.
  35. I have gained more knowledge and this has helped give me confidence to speak up more at work and give my opinion on certain subjects.
  36. It has given me a greater understanding of the way businesses should be run.
  37. It has given me confidence in myself again and challenged me.  Great to get the feeling of achievement when reading, studying and finishing an assignment.  The knowledge gained has solidified what I thought in some cases, and it has also ignited a new thirst for knowledge and studying.
  38. It has encouraged me to take a step back to evaluate and then to start addressing situations in both my personal and business life.
  39. Made me more aware of the processes that need to be worked through when planning, managing staff, implementing change, solving problems etc.
  40. I have worked in a wide variety of admin and customer service roles over a period of 30+ years but have never held any formal qualifications and it wasn’t considered necessary when I was younge.  I know I have academic ability but have never been able to prove it, and as most of my family have a degree or trade qualification, I have always feld a lesser person.  I have always regretted not gaining a tertiary qualification but the cost and commitment to attending courses and lectures firstly as a young wife and mother and later as a full time employee, has been a problem for me.  This course has given me the opportunity to study around my work and family commitments and to prove to myself that I can achieve top academic results and been a huge boost to my confidence.  The course has also shown me which areas of management that I am particularly interested in as a result, I may pursue further studies in these.  Once I have completed this qualification, I hope to find a suitable small business management position in a local company.
  41. My experience has given me more confidence.  I know now I can still learn and learn well.  It has given me the confidence to go on to look at taking other courses to improve my job prospects.  I will be looking at other job opportunities that I now feel are within my capabilities.
  42. I’m finding the course very interesting, particularly the marketing paper.
